Charlize Theron Would ‘Love to’ Do a Prequel to ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

Variety

In this week’s cover story, Charlize Theron tells Variety she hopes that her new action thriller “Atomic Blonde” spawns a multi-film franchise. But she’s also eager to trek back through the desert as the one-armed Imperator Furiosa in a prequel to “Max Mad: Fury Road.”

I loved the film but also hated it in many ways also. The acting was on par, the action was great, the setting was brilliant and so on story was too.

My biggest gripe with the film was Charlie Theron, I've always enjoyed her acting, but this was mad Max and Charlie/furiosa out shined max which is what annoyed me most.

Mad Max hardly spoke or had lines and I do understand they needed the story for furiosa, could the film of been made longer to bring max in it more, most certainly and I would of welcomed it.

My thoughts even though I've watched it god knows how many times and I mite go watch it again because it's so enjoyable, is that Furiosa could of had her own film and franchise. Charlize did do a wonderful job, again too wonderful that she out shone max and it does wind me up abit.

I'd made my mind up after the first film that max, needed to be abit more violent, the film needed more scenes with max kicking more ass, but more importantly max needed to be the star of the show.

But yeah I'd welcome a prequel, where you see charlize lose her arm, get taken from the Many Mother's as a young girl, and her rise through the ranks of her captures. Maybe some gruesome scenes along the way as no doubt furiosa would of been used and brainwashed to the point it made her into the person she is in mad Max fury road.

Since the second film Max has always taken a backseat. In all the films he barely talks much at all compared to the characters around him. Each film is set up as Max simply walking into another character(s) struggle.

As for a prequel I'm pretty mixed on the idea. There's no real continuity in Mad Max apart from the first film that establishes Max as a character of the series. Each film apart from the first are just random tales of Max's life in the wastes. To keep the theme consistent no characters apart from Max are ever seen again, Max himself begins with everything only to lose it again at the end. It's a pattern that gives Max his desire to either retrieve what was lost or gain something beneficial to him. How he goes about this leads him to form bonds with characters that leave him to question the person he's become only to lose them directly or indirectly toward the end. This sort of loss accompanies him whenever he chooses to act selflessly. They could maybe do a spin off for Furisoa but I've never felt her character was that important beyond it's singular use for another entry in the series.

of course she would, its a pay cheque.

i dont think they should do anything with the mad max franchise with regards to side stories.
