Chloë Grace Moretz Swims Into Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’

Universal and Working Title have tapped Kick Ass‘s Chloë Grace Moretz to star in a new live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson, if the film tracks the original story, expect a far more bittersweet tale than the one that has filtered into popular culture thanks to Disney’s rosy 1989 adaptation. Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love, Actually‘s Richard Curtis is in talks to write the script.

That's the Disney version. This is one is being made with the original story in mind. Unlike the Disney version, this one is a dark tale with no happy endings. Furthermore, Universal can't call their Little Mermaid, Ariel. In the original story, she did not have a name.

Ariel belongs to Disney.

I have no problem since she is a very good actress, the dark version is definitely the better version for live action.
