Is there really even a point in making this? Every aspiring filmmaker would've already seen all these.

I mean, I love Airplane! and The Truman Show as much as the next guy, but putting them on an aspiring filmmaker necessity list? The Royal Tenenbaums? The hell? SEVEN PSYCOPATHS? LOL

Thank god you threw in Pulp Fiction, Rear Window, Psycho, Taxi Driver, Silence Of The Lambs, and The Shining to balance it out.

The writer intended it to be a wide mix of genres, and contemporary cult flicks as well as established classics (some of the modern movies, like Fish Tank or We Are The Best, aren't that well known).

Surely an aspiring filmmaker needs a grounding in a variety of techniques and forms? If you're looking to make comedy movies, for example, Airplane! is likely to be miles more helpful than Rear Window and Taxi Driver.

I think an aspiring filmmaker should watch films and shows from all walks of life. If you want to make comedy movies and you limit yourself to watching comedies, you will fail. There is no comedy without drama and there is no drama without comedy. What makes this funny? What makes this not funny? Why isn't that funny? Why is that funny? Why isn't that supposed to be funny? Why is that supposed to be funny? Is it even funny?

This is why a lot of people fail. Though still, if we're talking essentials for an aspiring filmmaker, I wouldn't be putting Airplane! or Seven Psycopaths in.

Fair enough! Personally, I'd say Airplane! is up there as one of the best comedies ever made, but I guess there are plenty of others that could have made the cut.
