How long have they been planning this? When was this brought up in the staff meeting? When did someone sketch out that first vague idea into some form of a script? Sometimes the continuity errors make it into the final drafts, and it is understandable for a long-running series, but in the end it still surprises you when something is pulled off so flawlessly. And even if it was not planned from the beginning they were able to twist it with such ease that it flows perfectly with the already established story."
