From Cinelinx:
I had a most appreciated priviledge to screen The Look Of Silence, the follow up to 2012's groundbreaking The Act Of Killing, at this years South By Southwest. I was further pleasured to meet the director of both films, Joshua Oppenheimer, and talk to him about some of the formal aspects and differences between the two. What I gathered was an incredible insight, with the unusual requirement of patience and compassion.
From Cinelinx:
There is no silence in this film. When tense confrontations come to a close, a grinding ambience of humming insects fills the void. Or, indeed a literal quiet does come, so the mind fills the space with the cries of the victims, who loom over Indonesia awaiting the miasma to fade and a confession to dissipate the plumes. Where, in The Act Of Killing you had to fight the fever dream to find the depths of the horror, The Look Of Silence positions you on the other side of the fumes.

By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!
We reported almost six months ago that the Doctor Strange movie was maybe possibly getting some traction, which was an awesome birthday present as Doctor Strange actually ranks as one of my very favorite superheroes. And while the news hasn't changed all too much in the interim, here is what the official deal is as of today: 1) The script by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly (CONAN THE BARBARIAN) has been completed, turned in, and approved. 2) Marvel Studios is "actively seeking a director to come in and helm the project. Once the director has come on board, they will then be searching for the cast to star in Doctor Strange." 3) "Production on Doctor Strange is expected to begin this year, with a release date likely to be sometime in 2013."

As Marvel mines the depths of their character catalog for big screen properties one thing has become clear: They are rapidly coming to the end of the big, mainstream characters and, if they are to continue, things are going to get weird. Hardcore fans of the label have been waiting for the weird factor to crank up and recent Marvel entries have nodded to the supernatural, cosmic side of the Marvel Universe with elements of both Thor and Captain America leaning in that direction. But for all that Thor is a god and Captain America showed off the Cosmic Cube that's still not the real thing. If you want Cosmic Marvel you want Doctor Strange.
I can't help but wonder if we may see Tom Welling in the role. I think he could pull it off pretty well and he's not really working at the moment either.
I don't care who they get just as long as they ditch the mustache. ugh i always thought this superhero looked so Goofy.
