WOW247: "If we don’t get to see a sequel or two to the first Hollywood adaptation, it would be one of the most galling ever cases of a follow-up being hugely anticipated, but never delivered."
THR:
This story first appeared in the April 24 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
Lisbeth Salander may be back. The fictitious hacker soon will return to the page in The Girl in the Spider's Web, touted as the fourth installment of the best-selling Millennium series that kicked off with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. But will the pierced protagonist also reappear on the big screen?
When she ran Sony, Amy Pascal negotiated for the studio's right to produce adaptations of the Millennium books, and sources say Sony also has rights to Spider's Web. Written by David Lagercrantz, not the original trilogy's late author, Stieg Larsson, the book is a continuation of Salander's exploits. Sony made David Fincher's 2011 Dragon Tattoo, which earned $233 million on a $90 million budget. But the studio has wanted to make the next film for significantly less than Fincher's version.
I wish they would do something. I wouldn't mind if they combined the last two into one movie. It might even be better if they did that. I just want to see the final story with the same characters.
E! Online: We've got some bad news.
The much-wanted Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel won't be coming to a theater near you.
Rooney Mara, who starred in director David Fincher's movie adaptation of the best-selling novel, confirms it's a lost cause.
Whaaaaa.....why not, the first one was great
Probably the only remake I think was better then the original
The first one was good because of Finchers direction, but id rather see him move on to other things. The books the movies are based on aren't very good.
this is sad, but i already have a feeling that it wont pushed through because they should have done it last year, i have not yet watched the girl who kicked the hornets nest but i already saw the second film and i can picture out craig, fincher and rooney mara replicating or even make their version better as they did with the first. rooney mara was superb in that role and finchers direction was spot on im disappointed they did not continue to make it a trilogy.
This really sucks! I loved the American version. If only they filmed it like the Swedish ones (all 3 at once).
