After our RANT the other day about Sony pulling “The Interview” from theaters there have been a number of interesting developments:
One of 2023's biggest and dumbest creature features is making waves right now on streaming around the world.
"If you are already a fan of this franchise, this is a very good option this weekend at the cinema. It's well made, the actors are great and the story/world setting is very interesting." - Bryan (Resident Entertainment)
Ashley Madison-Sex Lies and Scandal Review: The documentary refuses to take a stand on whether or not it wants us to feel bad for cheaters, infuriating viewers with its wishy washy attitude.
They just released a new trailer? This whole thing keeps getting stranger and stranger...
If you look at these, you should also look at the other side too.
Tomorrow is Friday, they probably had the trailer scheduled, and forgot to stop it from going live. If you notice their FB also updated all their photos and banners by removing the release date of the film entirely, also removing some posts regarding it's release. PR is cleaning it out right now.
As for Paramount, they simply didn't want the press on them. Yes any coverage is good, but this is pretty heated and it's best to just distance yourselves. Smart business move by them. (Plus it was free screenings so Paramount wouldn't make any money off it)
Regarding VOD it still confuses me, but I'm assuming the hackers have a throat hold on them at the moment so they can't really do anything yet.
I'd agree with most that a VOD solution to this entire mess is inevitable, if not in the next few weeks for The Interview. Sony's going to have to make up that money somehow given its financial climate these days.
Expect it to get a quiet release months from now while they try and sweep it all under the rug advertised on every PS4 dashboard out there.
Every day Sony exists, we get played by them...
