10 Reasons DC’s Cinematic Universe Is Already Doomed

WC: This past Wednesday, Time Warner announced a spate of new movies designed to establish, expand, and cement the profitability of DC Comics’ cinematic universe. Those films — Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in 2016, Wonder Woman and Justice League Part One in 2017, The Flash and Aquaman in 2018, Shazam and Justice League Part Two in 2019, and Cyborg and Green Lantern (a reboot of the property) in 2020 — will be punctuated with additional films starring Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman. The news has taken the internet by storm, even eclipsing some major Marvel cinematic rumors from earlier in the week.

I love these lists, they are always stretching to reach some predetermined conclusion. How do they come up with the number 10? Did they actually have 10 reasons or is it just some arbitrary number?

Qrphe3492d ago

I honestly care little for neither DC's nor Marvel's blockbuster entries. I think I've enjoyed DC Animated films from the last years a lot more than I've enjoyed any superhero movies of the last decade.

ironfist923492d ago

Same here, although Son of Batman was pretty bad.

YoungKingDoran3493d ago

Personally, I fear that by the time these movies are out (2019 & 2020?) I will already be over superhero movies, as I feel myself already getting quite sick of the current Marvel movies and characters.

Not to mention that everyone knows Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman as they have already been popular for a long time. Yeah yeah, What do I know? But I believe DC should make superhero movies for ADULTS and do something alittle different than Disney -cough- Marvel.

Forget Justice League, they missed their opportunity. How about they make a Lobo movie?
Appeal to the real comic book fans with faithful and exciting (and mature) movies, and make Marvel guys jealous when they get "Avengers 4 - Parental Guidance recommended"

Gohadouken3493d ago

I must say i chuckled at the whole "mature films for REAL comics fans" bit , when one of the biggest complaint , on the paper side you see from grizzled fans , on every online venues , is about a perceived obsession of turning every books into something "gritty" "dark" ,"mature" , over telling fun stories , even if serialized and not always self contained .

caseh3492d ago

Personally I'd love to see some Batman films based on the Dark Horse comics. Like the one where he becomes obsessed with getting stronger, gets hooked on Venom etc.

YoungKingDoran3492d ago

I don't disagree with you Gohadouken and believe it or not I have a huge distaste for movies being made "dark" for the sake of, well being dark, whatever the hell this "dark" is supposed to be anyway.

When I said mature I did not mean dark but I suppose by mature I meant maybe shaking up the forumulas with more complex story lines (if possible) villains with purpose and not just some evil guy wanting to destroy the world/universe... I don't know, like I said, I feel like I am getting a little tired of these movies and I think DC should try the blue water approach and make some more outlandish, even bordering on fantasy superhero movies.

But hey, these comic book movies are touchy subjects, apparently.

gamejediben3493d ago

I did not think ignorance of this magnitude was possible...

This article is proof positive that whatculture.com is overrun by Marvel fanboys. Every one of these "reasons" is categorically false and displays the most blatant jealousy and fanboyism the internet can provide. And that's saying something...

Avoid clicking at all costs. Do not feed this Marvel troll.

Defectiv3_Detectiv33492d ago

I'm not sure if that's the case. They posted an equally stupid article giving us 10 reasons why Marvel is running out of steam not long ago.

Baka-akaB3492d ago (Edited 3492d ago )

Mm you actually made me look , and while they got a hard on for marvel movies (or most likely are riding the coat tail of anything trendy and popular) , they aint such a boon for marvelites , it's chokeful of errors and stupid conjectures too

gamejediben3492d ago

You know it's very possible that once Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad release in 2016, whatculture.com will suddenly start pumping out articles about how Marvel should be more like DC and how DC is more popular and whatnot.

They really are all about what is trendy at the moment with not a care about what is coming soon.

windblowsagain3492d ago

The flood of super hero's.

Batman isn't one. He is a rich man in a suit.

strangeaeon3492d ago

I also find it annoying when someone uses the blanket term of "superhero" for every comic book hero.Batman has no powers.

ironfist923492d ago

Superhero being a genrealisation of the term to identify comic book heroes. There's plenty of characters who dont have "supernatural" powers, but its just easier to call them Superheroes, rather than "Superheros and that Batman guy". or "Superheroes and that Iron Man guy"

markte3492d ago

Reason #1 should be;
Because BvS is taking too much inspiration from Frank Miller's insanely over-rated garbage.

strangeaeon3492d ago

Thanks, someone needed to kick that sacred cow.
