Mike Newell Plants Flag To Helm 'The Day of The Triffids'

Mike Newell has been set to helm The Day Of The Triffids, the adaptation of the classic sci-fi book by John Wyndham that was scripted by Neil Cross for Ghost House Pictures. Those sparked about this development know the logline: After a comet shower blinds most of the world’s population, those with sight must battle alien plants, known as triffids, bent on destroying mankind.

The film’s being produced by Ghost House, Mark Gordon, Don Murphy, and Michael Preger, and Murphy’s Angry Films partner Susan Montford will be executive producer. Newell is repped by WME and UK-based Independent Talent.

This is actually a remake of one that was done in 1963. It's one of my favorite sci fi classics. A little corney but good.

‘The Grudge’ Reboot Gets Nicolas Pesce To Direct For Ghost House

Nicolas Pesce has been set to rewrite and direct The Grudge reboot for Ghost House Pictures. Pesce, who made his directorial debut on the critically acclaimed 2016 Sundance pic The Eyes of My Mother, will resuscitate the Takashi Shimazu-directed 2004 film that helped establish the viability of low-cost genre films. The new film is based on a script by Midnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhler, and it will be produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Erin Westerman and Romel Adam will oversee for Ghost House.

Fox Lands ‘Luther’ Creator Neil Cross’s Supernatural Thriller Pitch ‘Inside’

Fox has beaten out several bidders to acquire Inside, a large-scale supernatural thriller film to be written by Neil Cross, best known as the creator of the celebrated BBC series Luther. The film will be produced by the Picture Company’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman. Fox expands its relationship with Cross, Rona and Heineman, who are in the middle of the Escape From New York remake that recently got Robert Rodriguez aboard to direct. Mike Ireland is the Fox exec on that project and will serve in that role on the new project.
