3DS sold more in its first month without a huge system seller

_-EDMIX-_2556d ago

Well yes and agreed, but this is still pretty good.

it might now outsell 3DS as I feel that portable market is on the decline, but I see it outselling the Wii U.

I think the final numbers might be 30 million or 40 million

Shiken2556d ago (Edited 2556d ago )

Eh, 80mil or more is more reasonable. Portable consoles of this caliber are in higher demand than you realize.

_-EDMIX-_2556d ago

@Shiken- "Eh, 80mil or more is more reasonable"

Based on what?

3DS sold 65 million.....

"Portable consoles of this caliber are in higher demand than you realize"

Nope.

PSP playing off of the TV didn't magically make it beat DS soooooo

Neonridr2556d ago

@EDMIX - PSP didn't have BOTW caliber games though. No offense to the PSP, but the games designed for it were far from "console-esque". Handhelds traditionally offered scaled down or trimmed versions of console games at best. Switch aims to at least change that.

_-EDMIX-_2556d ago

@Neo-

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Yes it did.

For a 2004 Portable, it actually had console level graphics.

BOTW doesn't even have graphics of PS4 or XONE titles. So PSP's comparison is with PS2 at the time.

Switch comparisons is with Wii U, the weaker console vs PS4 and XONE....

" but the games designed for it were far from "console-esque".

Nope.

They were legit the same games, many even got ported to PS2, PS3 etc.

Sorry, but anyone playing Birth By Sleep right now on PS3 or PS4 can very much tell you, its "console-esque" lol

Mind you, how so? God Of War on PSP, was still God Of War, GTA on PSP was still GTA, KH Birth By Sleep many see as legit the 3rd KH. So sorry bud, in 2004, Sony made a handheld that basically had PS2 games, games that even got ported to PS2 and even 3

I'm not even entirely sure how anyone would really even be able to tell the different from PS2 to PSP games to be honest.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Soooooo God Of War on PSP, is actually not that much different then Zelda on Switch. It is a game that was on console, then a game on a powerful handheld.

Both have the quality of titles you'd find on console.

GTA for PSP came out in 2005
GTA SA for PS2 came out in 2004

https://www.youtube.com/wat...
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

"Handhelds traditionally offered scaled down" You sure? Cause in 2005, didn't look like they were scaling down crap for GTA. Both GTA's legit look alike. Again, PSP in many areas was more powerful then PS2, just like Switch is more powerful then Wii U.

I think you are just salty simply because this is a 1.1 comparison. PSP had PS2 quality titles like Switch has Wii U quality titles.

I see no reason to be salty. You are just upset because they are not the first to do this concept. God Of War when released was up there with one of the best looking games and yes, it had 2 entries on PSP that look just as good.

Unless God Of War isn't of "console quality" I'm not sure what your talking about bud.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker exist
God Of War series exist
Kingdom Hearts exist
Grand Theft Auto exist.

Sorry but when those games are on PS2, then on PSP with legit no huge difference, maybe its time to just give it a rest. I see no reason to desperately try to ignore this.

"the world so alive, you'd forget your playing on a handheld console"

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

"times I was playing this, I literally forgot I was on a handheld"

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

"Par for par what you'd see on the console"

TheUndertaker852556d ago

At the rate it's going it's not going to.

At the point 2 million sales were announced for Switch sales for the Wii U in the same period were already above 3 million. Now it's been longer and still moving less than Wii U.

well it was the successor to the all time popular DS.

CrimsonPheonix2556d ago (Edited 2556d ago )

@fallenangel The 3DS did not sell more.

@otaku Sales of the DS have nothing to to with the 3DS, nor does the Wii U have anything to do with the Switch.

_-EDMIX-_2556d ago

? but the 3DS didn't sell more, so why would you reference DS for your narrative?

smh.

Why would you use a platform that is 13 years old to reference a market today?

3DS is the only way we can tell how Switch might do, not DS, this isn't 13 years ago....

Mind you, we don't know just how much that market is shrinking due to mobile. Based on 3DS and PS Vita, its not getting larger, its getting smaller.

That is a fact.

THUS, the only fair assumption to make is one that is slightly below 3DS, as we must account for the market shrinking.

3DS releasing didn't suddenly stop that, I don't see this suddenly stopping that either, especially when its launch is BELOW 3DS FOR A FACT!

davand1142556d ago

@edmix
The reason why he would use the ds as a reference is because the 3ds was the successor to the second highest selling console of all time and when a successor to a popular product comes out consumers tend to get hyped about it because it's the new version of a product they loved. That's why the 3ds sold so much when it first came out even though it was $250 with not many games. That's why people are hyped about the galaxy 8 because they had the s7 and they really liked it.

davand1142556d ago

The 3ds was the successor to the second highest selling console of all time. In the first year the 3ds sold off of the ds name alone.

3.61 million isn't higher than 2.74 million? 🙄

Has Wii U passed 14 million units sold yet?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2556d ago

No. Sales for the first three month of 2017 didn't count it.

TheUndertaker852555d ago

They pulled official stock from many retailers and aren't producing Wii U. What's out there for reported totals is where it would stay as those numbers are shipped. No more production stops that number from increasing.

DJustinUNCHAIND2556d ago

Congrats to Ninty.

I'll be picking up a Switch and Scorpio to go with my Pro. 😁

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

LG_Fox_Brazil126d ago

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64125d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga125d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic124d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits125d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake125d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

Nintendo not thinking about older Zelda games, "difficult to say" if classic style will return

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has again commented on the possibility of revisiting the style of past entries in the series – but there are no plans as of now. Speaking with RTL Nieuws, Aonuma said that games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were possible because of what came before them.

Which is very sad. I still wish we could get a zelda like twilight princess, the dark tone and theme in the traditional style. But times have changed and the masses prefer open world sandbox. Smh. Perhaps we can get a proper hd remake of ocarina of time some day.

CDbiggen264d ago

I played 100 hours of Tears of the Kingdom, enjoyed it, but ready for a game like that next.

kythlyn298d ago

If they can bounce between 2D and 3D Mario games, they can bounce between classic and modern Zelda games too. I thought this was a given when the Switch combined a handheld with a primary console.

Inverno298d ago

Then this is where I part ways. I won't disagree with anyone who says that the old formula was getting stale. And I do think BoTW in a few ways was a step in the right direction, but there's way too much good that was left with the old formula in the transition.

CrimsonWing69298d ago

I want it to. I’m sorry, but these new Zelda games I just can’t get into.

Duke19298d ago

Well that sucks. I still love the classic formula WAY more than the Hyrule Engineering Simulator
