The stardrop in Stardew Valley actually "tastes like video games."

Looks like the Switch may have a day 1 Killer App. Nice to see. Good way to launch a console.

SCW19822614d ago

Is it a killer app if it's on another platform as well?

theKiller2614d ago

I am happy to see Nintendo focusing on the young audience and making fun games and played in new fun ways. games are never about the latest graphics.

I hope Nintendo will continue on doing what they are doing.

Think about it guys, if u have young brothers or sisters or children, would you wanna play with them mario and mario carts and zelda or battlefield and resident evil?

as for the older audience, yes ps4 or xo could be more interesting. but somebody has to provide the young with their games.

BVFTW2614d ago

I'll give you a thumbs up theKiller, I may not totally agree with you, but that's a good point, I just hope they came up with another eternal darkness once in a while or a metroid prime style re-invention of a franchise along with those kiddy games we know and love.

lxeasy2614d ago

This looks like it has potential to be the best Zelda game ever made

jaymacx2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

Zelda rupee jolly ranchers. Lol.. wheres that guy who posts ads on N4G about his job blah blah when you need him? 😄

Their second highest score ever at 94/100 , GTA4 is number 1 with 95/100

Juiceid2614d ago

Right. Anything below 96 and I'm out!

InTheZoneAC2615d ago

makes no sense how gta4 got such a high rating, but then other games, including GTAV weren't rated higher

The 10th Rider2615d ago

Older game, and although not a better game than GTAV it was more innovative, ground breaking and exciting at the time of release.

deafdani2615d ago (Edited 2615d ago )

Because GTAV was objectively a better game, but it wasn't groundbreaking when it came out in the same way that GTAIV was.

Seriously, people seem to be so used to modern sandbox and open world games today, that they completely forget that there was NOTHING like GTAIV when it came out. Nothing. There was a before and an after with GTAIV.

And yes, annoying Roman calls and more serious tone aside, GTAIV was a goddamn amazing game. Hell, it's still pretty good today.

OrangePowerz2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

Deafdani, I don't see what was groundbreaking in GTA 4. It was a better looking version of the usual GTA game. Since the previous GTA game was a PS2 game that was always going to happen. The only thing it was really doing different was that it lacked a lot of the GTA humour and charm. Except of the visuals it was quite a downgrade from San Andreas when it comes to the size of the world and gameplay features.

InTheZoneAC2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

for those that disagree and don't seem to understand my point, I'll add brief reasons why IV wasn't as great or as deserving. The game was fun, no doubt. Niko Bellic was very likable as well. The map size was huge.

But overall the game had so many missing features from San Andreas and the driving was absolutely terrible. I think at the time people were more amazed with the world and the character, which overshadowed the actual gameplay aspects.

GTA V basically perfected what IV should've been or was trying to be. I thought we were never going to get a character better than Niko, then they introduce a great trio and I don't see them 1up'ing that any time soon.

So what I'm saying is that "excitement" shouldn't be a recognizable factor in reviews.

generic-user-name2614d ago

San Andreas was better than IV.

bluefox7552614d ago

GTA4 got weirdly high ratings across the board, not sure why, it's far from being the best GTA game.

FalloutWanderer20772614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

@deafdani - While not the same overall quality as GTA IV, there were still other OW games that released either in the same year as GTA IV (2008) or shortly after, that were also good representations of what the genre was capable of at the time. Two that come to mind are Saints Row 2 (last game in the series that had a more serious tone in competition with GTA) and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (Not the best game but the destructibility was amazing).

Other then great presentation, visuals and the most realistic portrayal of NYC we'd ever seen, the primary thing that GTA IV truly innovated was physics - the Euphoria engine. That is the one thing that sticks out in my mind as true innovation for the genre and games collectively, we had never seen physics like that before in a game, let alone a huge sprawling OW game at that`. Don't get me wrong, GTA IV is/was a great game (poor PC port withstanding) but it was also a step back for the series in many other respects i.e. San Andreas.

Back when gta4 came out, everyone I know were loving it.It was until the dust settled when people started to compare it to San andreas

moegooner882615d ago

GTAIV was their highest rated game of all time? I am trying to wrap my head around what was so special about it, am I missing something?

Majin-vegeta2615d ago

Thee name alone gives them automatic pass😒

-Foxtrot2615d ago

Hype aswell

GTA4 - Next Gen GTA game - Rockstar - Fact it's GTA - The wait between games - Coming off the awesome San Andreas

It's how it works

Final Fantasy 13 went through roughly the same. It was pretty bad in the end but good grief the reviewers would tell you differently.

I like how people bring up Horizon in this article. Like one minute the games aren't competing as they are different games yet suddenly they are out of nowhere.

Silly gameAr2615d ago (Edited 2615d ago )

Pretty much, but honestly, I enjoyed GTA4 more than 5.

FanMan2615d ago

I'm a fan of Zelda, but you could definitely say the same thing about it as well. Skyward sword received tons of greats scores but it was my least favorite Zelda.

DiceAndRice2615d ago

Well at the time GTA IV was unlike anything we had seen, visual and tech wise so it was seen as some kind of technical masterpiece. I think a lot of reviewers also liked the story of Niko too.

I think GTA V did everything much better though.

-Foxtrot2615d ago

Niko was pretty bland character wise

I mean jeez..Claude was better and he didn't even speak

Bathyj2615d ago

GTAIV was my least favourite game in the series. And yes Im counting GTA I & II

Profchaos2615d ago

Bingo the only other open world game at the time was saints row on that generation.

People forget but gta iv was released 9 years ago in 2008 after suffering big delays in 2007.

Think about that game for its time had better graphics than most linear games of the time.

DigitalRaptor2615d ago

There are 4 series in which the mainline entries always get 90+ scores on average and they are:

GTA, MGS, Mario and Zelda.

-Foxtrot2615d ago

Do you not think Elder Scrolls does? I mean Skyrim was really good but I mean it did feel a little dumbed down compared to Oblivion and Morrowind.

I suppose with "GTA" you could say "Any Rockstar game"

notachance2615d ago

I played all GTA since GTA II and GTAIV was the only one that made me bored and drowsy and yawning constantly when playing it.

Pennywise1382615d ago

I don't get it either. Even when the game was new I remember thinking how cool some of the technological advancements over San Andreas were but wondered why it felt so much more limiting than San Andreas. Not just in size but in things you could do and vehicles etc.

Juiceid2614d ago

To be honest, while it's not my favorite series, the amount of detail in the games is staggering. There is so much to do and what can be done is equally amazing. Whether you or anyone enjoys it is negotiable, but what's there is undeniable.

I have this pre order! Last Zelda i played was wind waker for GameCube!

nowitzki20042614d ago

If you get a chance, Play Twilight Princess.

FalloutWanderer20772614d ago

I need to also finish Twilight Princess! I had bought TP around release on GC but never finished it sadly. I have fond memories of switching between Zelda:TP and the 1st Gears of War since they had released less than 2 weeks from one another. Two vastly different games, both incredibly fun and beautiful in their own unique ways. At the time GOW was one of the best looking console games out and Twilight Princess was Zelda, enuff said! From what I did get to play I thought TP was very good, I also enjoyed the darker visual tone compared to the rest of the series. I don't own a Wii U, so hopefully Twilight Princess HD releases on Switch virtual console, that would be awesome.

InTheZoneAC2613d ago

He meant play it on the Wii u, not the Wii. I promise.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

LG_Fox_Brazil125d ago

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64124d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga124d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic124d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits124d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake124d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

Nintendo not thinking about older Zelda games, "difficult to say" if classic style will return

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has again commented on the possibility of revisiting the style of past entries in the series – but there are no plans as of now. Speaking with RTL Nieuws, Aonuma said that games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were possible because of what came before them.

Which is very sad. I still wish we could get a zelda like twilight princess, the dark tone and theme in the traditional style. But times have changed and the masses prefer open world sandbox. Smh. Perhaps we can get a proper hd remake of ocarina of time some day.

CDbiggen263d ago

I played 100 hours of Tears of the Kingdom, enjoyed it, but ready for a game like that next.

kythlyn298d ago

If they can bounce between 2D and 3D Mario games, they can bounce between classic and modern Zelda games too. I thought this was a given when the Switch combined a handheld with a primary console.

Inverno298d ago

Then this is where I part ways. I won't disagree with anyone who says that the old formula was getting stale. And I do think BoTW in a few ways was a step in the right direction, but there's way too much good that was left with the old formula in the transition.

CrimsonWing69298d ago

I want it to. I’m sorry, but these new Zelda games I just can’t get into.

Duke19298d ago

Well that sucks. I still love the classic formula WAY more than the Hyrule Engineering Simulator
