PlayStation 4 Games Offering Free VR ‘Upgrade’ for Existing Owners

PlayStation 4 videogames will receive free compatibility updates for PlayStation VR.

kevco332797d ago

That's two more games I'll have on launch day...

uptownsoul2797d ago

How sick is this? Watch DriveClub start getting purchased at a higher rate now

Scatpants2797d ago

The article seems to say that Driveclub VR will be released as a new title and not a free upgrade, but the new tracks will be provided to owners of the non VR version, I'm assuming not in VR so you'll probably have to buy that one.

KickSpinFilter2797d ago

People claim DC VR is absolutely amazing. Great to here since the org was just so great.

bouzebbal2797d ago

DC will blow my mind...literally

Cindy-rella2797d ago

Driveclub and tumble will be free for me. Buying psvr day one and a ps4 neo

freshslicepizza2796d ago

That's cool. I always like it when they do this type of free upgrade.

Someone doesn't pay attention

I'm really excited for DC. Never thought the IP would surpass my excitement for a new GT. Maybe it's because DC turned out to be really good, and I'm really excited for a driving game with VR. OTOH, while GT:S is getting some press, I haven't followed it enough, or know enough about it to really be hyped yet, although it also looks pretty good for the regular version.

Overall, Sony has the chance to make DC into a strong lasting IP. It's support for the original was the best I've seen for any game. Sucks the dev got shut down, but I'm glad to see Sony isn't abandoning the IP altogether.

Deadpooled2796d ago

If DriveClub had two player splitscreen (from release) I would have bought it in a flash.

UltraNova2796d ago

Nice move. I am eager to see more on PSVR.

bouzebbal2796d ago

hustle kings might actually be immersive.

Yesss, sick news. I also can't believe how much Driveclub VR has blown up.

Scatpants2797d ago

I have an Oculus with a force feedback wheel and driving games are some of the most immersive games I've played in VR so far. I've got my PSVR preordered so I'm looking forward to Driveclub. I would HIGHLY recommend also buying a FFB wheel if you're thinking about getting a VR headset. A HOTAS also.

S2Killinit2797d ago

Yup. If you want VR racing i think the wheel would really make the immersion that much more effective (:

Scatpants2797d ago

It really makes all the difference in the world as far as immersion is concerned. Without a wheel it just feels like you're sitting in a car playing a videogame rather than driving. It's almost required equipment if you ask me.

DashArrivals2796d ago

Please. For the VR unwashed and FFB uninitiated people like myself... for the love of Jeebus, please tell me what FFB wheel to buy for the PS4 and also what HOTAS to buy? I am shame.

jb2272796d ago

I feel like racing games would get quite a bit more scary in VR. I'm a pretty decent real life driver but in games I'm nailing walls & running off cliffs left & right, does that feel a little crazy in VR?

To me VR driving sounds scarier than even survival horror haha

Scatpants2796d ago

A lot of people dis the Logitech stuff, but I have a G29 and it feels great to me. I have it hooked to a playseat challenge which is really nice because I can fold it up when I'm not using it. As for the HOTAS I have a Saitek X-52 pro and it is great. It feels like quality, but not quite the absolute top of the line. I wouldn't mind getting the Warthog one day. Space games with a HOTAS in VR are so awesome, it REALLY feels like you're flying a spaceship.

Scatpants2796d ago

@jb227 The first time I slid into a wall sideways in Asetto Corsa I reflexively threw my arms up to protect myself. It was a weird feeling, it totally tricked me for a second. My favorite so far is Dirt Rally, but I'm really hoping the PC release of Forza Horizon 3 has VR compatibility because all the jumps and stuff would be awesome.

rainslacker2796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

VR and racing are meant to go together IMO. The level of immersion is just perfect for that kind of game, and it really highlights the lack of depth perception over the traditional 2D display. Knowing where you are in a turn, and being able to adjust your head slightly to see what's around you is so much more like real driving. The difference is more stark than just moving from a controller to a FFB wheel, which in itself is a huge improvement to the whole experience.

Now all we need is the mechanical seats which simulate G forces on the body based on inertial changes of the car.:)

I'm really hoping the rumor of the Logitech Driving Force GT racing wheel for PS3 being compatible with GT and possibly DC becomes a reality. While not the best wheel, it'd be nice to delay the purchase of another more expensive wheel.

mariopasta35d ago

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts35d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos35d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts35d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa35d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
