The point is a trilogy with almost $2.5 billion of box office, several Academy Awards including one for acting (a first and only for superhero films), and near universal critical consensus as being considered "art" from Steven Spielberg to Werner Herzog and Paul Thomas Anderson, is not "divisive." Just because some fanboys on a forum thread whined that Robin's name is John Blake or that Batman retires does not a controversy make.

Divisive? Since when? The official reboot announcement two weeks ago? Sigh, fan communities turn on their old toys eventually, no matter how shiny.

I would actually argue the development of using superheroes as a diving board into social allegory is a relatively recent phenomenon in the last 30 or so years (at least anything beyond, say, suggesting that Peter Parker's journey is that of the everyman with financial and romantic woes). And in the article I examine the influences of why that happened to the comics in the 1980s and to superhero films in the 2000s.

This is one of the funniest lists I have seen in a long time.

A bit early to pull out the crystal ball on that, don't you think?

Sean Connery wore a toupee, though age is the only thing working against Strong. I think Coster-Waldau would be the most interesting (or Elba), but Hammer has a very good shot at getting it. Bale was in Reign of Fire, which was more of a Matthew McConaughey vehicle, before Batman Begins as well.

If it is anything like the first one, then is surely does make sense.

Depp, despite how miscast he is, is not the problem with this movie. It is what they built around him.

Can you edit that? Because it kind of ruins it for the non-readers.

That is a very good point. I respect his right to have a change of heart, especially in the wake of a tragedy. But if he does not announce he is giving at least a substantial part of his salary to charities affected by Newtown or to a group organized to reduce gun violence, like the Brady Campaign, I will maintain my raised eyebrows.

I'm just impressed you avoided it being referenced on Facebook, Twitter, late night comedy, talk shows, newspapers and pretty much every entertainment site linked to Filmwatch for the last two weeks. Sorry to those who avoided it at this point, because some Internet ninjutsu must have been used to avoid its ubiquitous soaking into the pop culture environment. For example, I didn't watch Dexter but I, like everyone, can tell you how Season 4 of that show ended. But I will keep this in ...

Sorry if the picture doesn't work for you guys. But that episode is two weeks old. Pretty much anyone who watches the show (or certainly reads the books) knows about that event at this point. And if you click on it, you get to read about some of the historical massacres that inspired it. So, enjoy. :)
