So...from what I gather, we're going to be getting a PG-13 rated Deadpool movie in which Deadpool "explores his pansexuality."

Top notch. Can't wait. /s

I have never been more scared of doing something that I would absolutely never do in the first place.

Y....yeah?

It's a plot-hole ridden mess. And then people defend it by saying that they're explained in the "extended universe," which to me is just another way of saying "bad writing." Plus whole sections of the film are absolutely useless.

I'm not in the camp that thinks it ruined the franchise or anything. There were some things I liked (the return of puppet Yoda being one), but it's just not that well constructed a movie at the end of the day.

The fact that "The Last Jedi" was even mentioned in a list about Oscar Nominations, much less that it was offered as an alternative for so many categories, is an instant indicator that this list is bupkis.

It is a genuinely poorly written and edited film, all political BS and dashed expectations aside. It could be nominated for visual effects, I suppose, if only to show some recognition to the fine artists that so often seem to do great work on what are otherwise ...

Meh...we didn't need an anime'd up Godzilla movie. Shin Godzilla will have to be the standard for a little while longer.

I liked the comedy. A lot of that made it fun and sort of made it feel like a side-story kind of thing. To be perfectly honest, given the sheer amount of Marvel content that we've been bombarded with over the last...almost 10 years, and given how painfully redundant so much of it is, it's nice to get something that just uses the characters we know and love to do some entertaining stuff.

She is a Mary Sue, though I don't necessarily subscribe to the notion that she's a product of any feminist peer pressure. I just think she's a very lazily written character, and this movie pushed that issue even further to the forefront. Her motivations are flimsy next to her moral drive, her backstory is painfully uninteresting, and the randomness of her power (though it could be nerdily explained through the extended lore) is, at the very least, boring in it's lack of explan...

Too much is being made of this vocal minority of fanboys that are upset about the lore being fundamentally altered.

It's just a genuinely poorly written and directed movie. It's just endless plotholes and stupid moments of subversion to the point that this almost seems like some kind of social experiment to see if maybe playing against expectations at every turn is as lucrative as playing into them.

I think the fanboy rage is making it too easy for shill critics to come in and say "fanboys didn't like it because it didn't play into their expectations."

But the truth of the matter is this was just a poor movie. It was a beautiful movie, for sure, but it seems like there was such a concerted effort to subvert every single little minute expectation going in, that we ended up with a horrible, sloppy mess of plot-holes and cringey humor and social fingerpo...

I don't think there's such a thing as too much nudity if it serves the narrative, but HBO shows in general have a habit of throwing it in just for the novelty of it. I like staring at naked women as much as any other straight guy, but when I'm trying to get into the epic sweep of a show like GoT, the nudity that they've so obviously thrown in for the hell of it just becomes a giant distraction. If it serves a contextual purpose then it's fine, but as Oona Chaplin ironicall...

I didn't hate it, but even as a perfectly serviceable summer comedy, it is not the fanservice that fans of Ghostbusters deserve. It just seemed like another Feig comedy.

Naturally this had to turn into a feminist topic as EVERYTHING that has anything to do with nerd culture does these days, but honestly my friends and I couldn't have cared less about the actual decision to use an all-female cast. It was more that it seemed to be a Ghostbusters movie that paid no hom...

It just seems like Spy or Bridesmaids, and I've read that it makes constant, very dating pop culture references and has random cameos from celebrities that have absolutely nothing to do with Ghostbusters.

And to be perfectly honest, THAT is what I think most people have been afraid of from the get-go. Not really that it's a new, all-female cast, but that it doesn't really seem to want anything to do with Ghostbusters outside of name recognition.

Haha, yeah I thought maybe this was going to be a more compelling argument than the standard "it was about the characters all along derp derp!" That was the biggest copout then, and it's the biggest copout now.

There was (and is) an endless sea of dramas I could have been watching back then if all I wanted was a show about the day-to-day melodrama between the cast. What set the show apart initially was the mysterious context in which the characters were placed...

I liked Deadpool much more than Kick-Ass and Kingsman.

The origin story was...well, just Deadpool's origin story. I guess it's a pretty cliched story by now, but I thought it was told in a much more entertaining and different way than most superhero movies.
