Same goes for my 1070. If this is like the Pascal of turing cards, this will be massive

The 1080Ti turned out to be a long term beast. Pascal was a great improvement over the already great Maxwell architecture. The life of Pascal cards was prolonged by the relatively small jump from Maxwell to Turing in rasterization.

I'm still on the 970 which is definitely not ready for next gen games. The leaks are suggesting, that Nvidia and AMD will compete across all price ranges which will hopefully result in more affordable cards.

What I'm curious to see is how they stack up in features and ray tracing performance. If rumors are to be believed the Ampere cards are supposed to be a big step up in ray tracing performance, which will finally make it a more usable feature. DLSS 2.0 is providing amazing results and I don't think that AMD can compete without a comparable featureset. With optimized rendering pipelines and AI upsampling, raw hardware specs are becoming less indicative of real world performance.

With next-gen cards and consoles launching in the next 3 months, it's an exciting time for video games. The hardware baseline is about to get raised which will hopefully make high-end hardware much more useful (beyond high framerates and resolutions).

We don't know the official naming yet. It's possible that they'll go with 21xx, but I think 30xx is much more likely, because they've already went from 10xx in Pascal to 20xx (and 16xx) in Turing. From a marketing perspective 21xx might not seem like a big enough leap. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't simply go to 30xx.

There is no point in overanalyzing the logic behind naming conventions. They are decided for marketing purposes only.

Generations in components does not equate to a generation of PC. What "generation" of PC am I in if I have an RX 580 and a Ryzen 7 3700? Give me a single identifier that tells me what "generation" that PC is in. You can't.

Generations are a console mentality and on PC, as a whole, they simply do not apply.

With the way a handful of games already run, I'd recommend sticking to 1440p (especially if a high refresh display) even if you got a 3070 or 3080 if you want to hold high minimums. Oh you're the guy i already had a conversation with, i only just noticed

But the games still look fantastic for 'weak machines'. I enjoy my exclusives too much to invest in a PC I doubt I'd play it much. Ghost of Tsushima is amazing amd beautiful to look at on seriously old hardware.

We have yet to see how much of a difference its SSD and system bandwidth really makes in the majority of games.

I'm the same with the 1080ti, it can still deliver the frames for my 100hz ultrawide. Will have to see how taxing the new games will be.

So Cyberpunk 2077 PREVIEW Ran at 1080p with DLSS 2.0 and RT Enabled on an RTX 2080Ti with 60 to 30 variable fps. And 4K DLSS is being targeted with the final build on a 2080Ti.

I guess you can reach 4K with DLSS 2.0 (kinda indistinguishable from native 4K) using your RTX 3080 (if you happen to end up buying one)

Yes most likely, which it rightfully should be. We don't want another dud overpriced 2000 series.

The rumours i have seen so far suggest the 3080 will be at least 20% better than the 2080Ti, and should also have much better RT performance but we'll see on that

According to recent reports, it will be ~40% more powerful in general, with ~3x the RT performance.

When you'll crank up Cyberpunk @ 8k.
Resolution increase is always proportional to performance bandwidth.

RTX 2080Ti was $999 at launch.
But it was kinda overkill so, $699 RTX 2080 is what you needed for top trumps.
And PS5 is rumored to be expensive. So .... an RTX 3080's gonna be 1.2x the price of the launch PS5.

With half the I/o throughput...if your lucky.
