Francesco De Meo of wccftech writes, "New pictures and details emerged online today for the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, thanks to a Twitter user who works for a company that designs accessories for console manufacturers."
Beta starts today for invited participants in select countries.
As the new year kicks into high gear with an amazing slate of PS5 game releases like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Tekken 8 and Helldivers 2, along with FINAL FANTASY VII Rebirth later this month,SIE are pleased to roll out another PS5 system software beta today with a number of quality-of-life enhancements and new features.
Listing for the DualSense V2 spotted over on Best Buy. Featuring improved battery life over its predecessor, the DualSense V2 could become a must-have PS5 accessory for those looking to stay wireless while gaming.
I have the Cobalt Blue controller and it lasts twice as long as my launch white controller did out of the box already.
never had a problem with the battery life or stick drift good to know that they improved it.
I was thinking all it really needs is a battery upgrade and there ya have it. Hall effect sensors would be great too but this is a good upgrade.
I have no problem with battery life, but what I would have liked on this new version would be back buttons/paddles.
Sony seems to be working on a new version of the DualSense that would improve on the PS5 controller with some extremely helpful features.
Pretty awesome. Hopefully they add a bigger battery to boot.
“The button hints would also be spelled out on the controller's touchpad, which would actually double as a display. This is not the first patent indicating that the DualSense 2 might feature a touchscreen instead of a touchpad, as another such IP filing emerged online back in September. As for the concept at hand, the controller that it describes wouldn't just be capable of lighting up its buttons, including its shoulder triggers, but also both of its analog sticks.“
Cool
Hopefully any upgrades and the like are kept for the PS6. If we start wasting things on mid gen consoles then the next gen isn’t as “wow” worthy compared to holding out and seeing a massive difference from something released 8 years ago or something.
Honestly, I would dig a screen on a controller. I always liked the Dreamcast implementation of the VMUS, which could be simulated by something like this. The buttons lighting up could be cool for some accessibility-specific scenarios. Still, for general usage, I can't think of any potential uses that can't be achieved by ordinary buttons.
That said. If they are going to make a new controller, I would love them to invest in more repairability. Modular sticks, easier access to the battery, etc.
"They noted that it averaged around 3 to 4 hours more than the dualshock 4"
So anything between 10-12 hours then if you are lucky. Is it really asking much for Sony to release their controller with a longer running battery? People will say "just plug it in if the battery is running low" but that defeats the whole purpose of having a wireless controller. I also wouldn't want to be charging the thing every day or every other day, it's annoying. My controllers for pc last MUCH longer than this, and they aren't made by multi billion dollar companies.
Anything under 30 hours isn't good enough, they could easily achieve it, they are just being cheap.
Imagine a Dual Sense controller with the "unlimited" hours of the Wii U or Switch Pro controller! 40 hours batterylife is no joke.
Anyways, increased battery is a good thing and a step forward! And I just love the looks of the Dual Sense, cant wait to try it out!
Yeah the battery life is the only draw back to the DS4. I just always have 2 controllers, so I can charge one and use the other...
I can see why those that play wireless are not happy, but for me it doesn't matter. I always have my controller connected since I play on a desk , and my console is very close.
Do the Square, Triangle, Circle and X buttons look really big in these pictures? On the plus side, the larger battery is definitely a welcome addition, and the overall bloated feel of the controller I saw from previous renders looks to have been toned down a bit/doesn't look quite so fat in person
