"hese days, it seems like you can’t spit without hitting a found-footage horror film. The odds of hitting a good one (or even a truly great one) are much, MUCH slimmer, but because they are cheap to make and they usually rake in the dough, Hollywood (not to mention all those young up and coming horror directors out there who are desperate to make a name for themselves) continues to crank them out one after another. The latest film to take advantage of this seemingly never-ending trend is Area 407 (2012), directed by Dale Fabrigar and Everette Wallin, and recently picked up for distribution by IFC Films."
Nerd Reactor takes a look at new found-footage horror film, Area 407. The film follows two sisters returning from their Christmas trip back from New York to Los Angeles. On their flight, they experience some unexpected turbulence and crash land in the middle of nowhere. Now, the stranded sisters and other survivors must find out where they are and where they can find help because something in the dark is hunting them.
Is Area 407 another gem of the found-footage genre or is it further proof that the genre is wearing thin?
Shock Til You Drop:
Last week, we exclusively premiered the trailer for the found footage thriller Area 407, hitting VOD via IFC Midnight this Friday, April 27th. Today, we have the one-sheet.
In the film, innocent people with family and friends waiting for them boarded a state of the art jet liner piloted by an experienced crew. They had every reason to believe the pilots could safely navigate a storm and negotiate turbulence without crashing the plane to the Earth from 30,000 feet.
This sounds interesting but a little too much like Lost. I don't know that I would rush to the theater and spend my money to see it. Maybe when it comes out on dvd.
