HBO Ends 'Luck' After Horse Deaths

HBO has ended its Dustin Hoffman drama series in the wake of three deaths of horses during filming.

"It is with heartbreak that executive producers David Milch and Michael Mann together with HBO have decided to cease all future production on the series LUCK.

Safety is always of paramount concern. We maintained the highest safety standards throughout production, higher in fact than any protocols existing in horseracing anywhere with many fewer incidents than occur in racing or than befall horses normally in barns at night or pastures. While we maintained the highest safety standards possible, accidents unfortunately happen and it is impossible to guarantee they won’t in the future. Accordingly, we have reached this difficult decision.

I wonder what could possibly be going wrong that the horses have been dying. That is so sad. I think they are some of the most beautiful animals in the world.

it is possible that the horses were drugged, 3 deaths in a short period of time is unusual, i dont think they were treated properly. but then again the article says that the show isnt grossing so well in the ratings so it may be the real reason why they cancelled the show. although horse racing is always entertaining i loved the movies secretariat and seabiscuit.
