This week sees the release of 21 Jump Street, a buddy cop comedy starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Buddy films have been around for a while, dating back to the silent era. In the 30s, Abbott and Costello & Laurel and Hardy were highly popular. The success of the genre eventually led to the popular buddy cop subgenre, starting off with such TV shows as I Spy and Starsky and Hutch.
While the buddy film theme spans several genres, the theme has really made a home in the realm of comedy. Buddy cop movies have become so popular in the world of comedy that they’ve even reached a point of being cliche and extremely formulaic. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty to enjoy, as the subgenre has spawned plenty of hilariously great movies. Today, I’m going to look at the subgenre and pick my top 10 buddy cop comedies.
Bros Review: The series, as the title suggests, is about two adult men who want to behave like children and we are not here for that.
Going Home With Tyler Cameron Review: This is a simple, no-nonsense but cliched watch, with Cameron's boyish charms taking centre stage.
Kaam Chalu Hai Review: Based on true events, this movie is thought-provoking and inspiring
Pretty good list, I wouldn't have thought of including Turner and Hooch.
Though I would have replaced Lethal Weapon and Rush Hour with Lethal Weapon 2 and Rush Hour 2.
I'm glad you included the tv shows on there too because those were some good ones. They show I Spy on late night tv now and I watch it sometimes when there is nothing else on.
Solid list
I would have put Tango & Cash in over Men in Black. On the premise that despite T&C not even being that good they are at least cops and thats what the list is built on. :)
bad boys 1 and 2 are my fav. and def better than MIB. i also liked rush hours better than MIB. admittedly ive never seen the lethal weapons though. i did start watching the first on netflix the other day though and it was pretty good so far
