Collider - Mysticism and superstition can provide hope. If there’s something beyond our world, something we can’t see, then perhaps there’s a shortcut, a fount of secret knowledge, anything that can provide a solution when the real world doesn’t have one we like. That’s where con artists come in and appeal to our desire for a great beyond. These frauds carry themselves as the special people who will use their gift (and a curse! It’s always a blessing and a curse with these things) to heal the body and/or soul. Rodrigo Cortés supernatural thriller Red Lights puts us on the side of skeptical scientists who aren’t opposed to the paranormal, but have yet to see any evidence of it. Dr. Margaret Matheson (Sigourney Weaver) and her assistant Dr. Tom Buckley (Cillian Murphy) use the power of science rather than the supernatural to debunk these phony mystics. But in its second half, Red Lights makes a major narrative turn, shifts the tone, draws the viewer deeper into the possibility of the paranormal, and has its characters struggle to keep a hold on reality

This January Netflix Streaming brings a lot of new films including one of the top grossing films of 2011, several new found footage horror films, Danny DeVito protects the environment, some independent releases, and a straight-to-DVD sequel of a Jason Statham ‘classic’. As usual Netflix has added plenty of catalog films to their lineup as well as including one of Schwarzenegger’s best action films, a gang cult classic, Ferris Bueller takes on Burger King’s most famous sandwich, Keyser Söze brings together the usual suspects, Sean Connery defects, and fish people leave the sea to meet the available women of the Northwest.
Gladly in 2012, I watched more good movies (well, middling and mediocre movies) than out right bad ones. But there were a fair share of horrendous films that made me wonder, “what the hell were they thinking?”. I sat through these movies so you didn’t have to (it’s the downside of the job) but there were plenty times that I wish I didn’t. At least one of these movies is interesting failure but I still consider them a bad time at the movie theater. Consider this list as a “stay away from these movies” list. this should be re titled as 10 mediocre movies that could have been better. because several of them had good potential and considerably not really bad as all. definitely not really the 10 worst im sure there are more than this.
Jeremy of We Got This Covered wrote, "Buried director Rodrigo Cortés returns with a film that’s much bigger than his last intimate project, but also much smaller in potency. Red Lights never overcomes its weak script and almost directionless story as pro actors Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver act as mice leading the blind in this disappointing thriller. Cillian Murphy‘s talent gets misused yet again and Elizabeth Olsen doesn’t even get a chance to say more than a handful lines. Red Lights is the collection of great talent working off of bad material, making it a disappointing time-waster that you shouldn’t bother with."
