LRA: Outrage - Digital Download Review

LRA writes: We have sung the praises of the independent studio Magnet to near obsessiveness on The LRA Show but I have never really talked much about this fantastic gem of a studio in one of my written reviews. Whomever is responsible for acquiring the films they release deserves a raise because they just can't make a mistake when it comes to releasing cutting edge, entertaining and unique films that otherwise would probably never see the light of day (in the United States anyways). Outrage continues the fine tradition of the studio that brought you Rubber and 13 Assassins and Hobo with a Shotgun and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and...you get the point. I went into Outrage with a blank slate, knowing only it had something to do with the Yakuza and that it starred legendary filmmaker and actor Takeshi Kitano who also wrote and directed the film. What I got was a tightly directed, acted and slightly absurd piece of action/thriller greatness that left me in awe when it was all over.

Outrage Blu-ray Review - WGTC

Jeremy of We Got This Covered wrote, "Takeshi Kitano's latest film, Outrage, is a brutally violent yakuza film that deals with betrayal and self-preservation. It's something that not everyone is going to be able to stomach, but fans of blood soaked revenge films done gangland style are going to eat it up. There's plenty to enjoy in Outrage. It's dark, angry and mean and those looking for a happy ending will be disappointed. Outrage is the kind of play-it-forward filmmaking that we don't see too often and I applaud it for that. It sticks to its crime roots and provides you with an interesting tale of gangland killing and murder."

The LRA Show Ep. 34 - Outrage

LRA writes: This week we take a look at the newest release from Magnet, one of our favorite studios of the year as they continue their trend of releasing cutting edge films that you can't find anywhere else with the Japanese Yakuza mob movie, Outrage! I also find time to give my impressions on two of this holiday seasons most acclaimed films, The Descendants and Shame. Meanwhile Brian contemplates just how much legendary film composer John Williams has contributed to the world of entertainment. Featured music this week is from the "Outrage" motion picture soundtrack.

The Daily Rotation - Outrage Review

Sean of The Daily Rotation wrote, "Few comedians have risen to the level of fame that “Beat” Takeshi Kitano have in Japan. Even fewer used that fame to slowly assimilate into the world of yakuza films, but Kitano has done both, and done it seamlessly. After his past popular yakuza films like Fireworks, Violent Cop, and Brother, he has taken a break the past few years to do more personal films like Takeshis, a surrealist trip through the mind of Kitano."
