When the poster arrived for the 3D re-release of The Phantom Menace I noted the focus on Darth Maul and the avoidance of CG blot Jar Jar Binks. I didn’t even mention that the film’s supposed central character, young Annakin Skywalker, was also completely absent. Funny how he slips the mind so easily…
The trailer has now arrived online and while Annakin stays in the frame (there’s no way they were going to leave the podrace out, I’m sure) Binks is once again on the cutting room floor. At least, I think so – there’s a few Gungans, briefly, but I don’t think any are JJ himself.
