Sony Pictures Picking Up Assassin's Creed Film Rights

Coming Soon says

Back in May, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the film and TV production arm of the game publishing company, announced it was developing 3D feature films based on Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. Variety now says that the Assassin's Creed adaptation has found a home at Sony Pictures.

The trade says that the studio is in final negotiations to adapt and distribute the movie, landing the film rights in a bidding war after Ubisoft started shopping the property over the last several months.

The fourth installment of the games, Assassin's Creed: Revelations is set to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on November 15.

Nice nice nice

I'm a huge fan of all these series' listed here. Personally I think that the Assassins Creed story on the big screen is going to be a huge success.

I cant wait, is it gonna be CGI, or Live Action?

If Live Action, then ffs Ubisoft, PAY enogh money to get Christopher Nolan on as the Director!

And I hope that instead of following Ezio or Altair, we get to follow the story of another Ancestor. That way instead of directly adapting the video game story in film format, we can have an independant story tailor made for the shorter timeframe of a film.

Keep desmond, KIRSTEN BELL AS LUCY, and the whole Templar/Assassin story as well as the modern day elements, and maybe a few hints at Ezio or ALtair, but a NEW ancestor would work very well.

Hell yes Kristen Bell needs to be cast in this movie. I'm also thinking that Joe Manganiello should be cast as Desmond/Ezio/Altair. He's Italian and I think has the look.

Personally, I think we need to see the story from the beginning with Desmond being held captive in the clinic, exploring the DNA history of Altair for those of the views who know nothing of the games. A 3 movie story should be able to do it and if done right would have the feel of Indy mixed with some Prince of Persia and National Treasure

nice, I can see the series turning into a movie

I honestly can't stand the games. I've tried with every single new entry in the series, but I still don't like it. I like the idea of the story, so I'm hoping a big screen take on it, will be enjoyable.

DUUUUUDE!!!
R4eally? I loved the series. Every single one of them is so much fun to me. I usually pre-order them and pick them up day 1. If there's a collectors ed, thats what I get.

but i thought they ubisoft already had the rights for thier own property since it was stated they built a studio specfically for films of thier franchise

did i miss something here?

Crazay4568d ago

What they decided to do was open their own studio to develop the properties but Sony is going to distribute it and I guess throw their marketing dollars into it.

DarkBlood4568d ago

well at least they will have proper material to work with the game stories are awsome and has that wtf vibe to it for me

let's hope they actually do something with it unlike the MGS rights.
