If you happen to peruse the films opening this weekend, you may momentarily wonder if you stepped back in time, but rest assured the laws of the space-time continuum are still intact. I think. Two cult classics from the 80s, Fright Night and Conan the Barbarian, are hitting theaters this weekend in their rebooted, shiny 2011 form, marking yet another weekend at the box office when everything that is old is new again. And just think, we still have the newest Superman and Spiderman reboots to look forward to in 2012. One can only hope that in our lifetimes, we will only have to suffer through one Footloose remake.
Fight For Paradise Review: This reality show is nothing new but there are so many uncomfortable moments that will definitely give you the ick.
Bros Review: The series, as the title suggests, is about two adult men who want to behave like children and we are not here for that.
Going Home With Tyler Cameron Review: This is a simple, no-nonsense but cliched watch, with Cameron's boyish charms taking centre stage.
12 Monkeys was such a great movie. Great performances by Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt
HEAT would kick LA Takedown's ass anyway, super awesome movie!
What a long title for this...
Anyway, yeah, pretty good list of films.
There was a Scarface in 1932? Didn't know that.
Given that "Heat" is my all-time favorite movie and that Mann is one of my favorite directors, I watched "L.A. Takedown" just for the hell of it once...absolutely hysterical. The coffee shop scene between Hanna and McCauley (the latter of whom was originally named "McLaren" in L.A. Takedown) was so cheesy and just downright laughable. It's amazing what terrific acting and a bigger budget can do for a well-written script.
On a side note, Howard Hawks' 1940 version of "His Girl Friday" is one of my favorite Screwball comedies of all time. It's definitely worth watching as I'm sure many of the folks here have never seen it.
