Back in 2003 when it was announced that Johnny Depp would be making a movie based on a Disney park ride people laughed. The laughter soon stopped when Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl was released to universal acclaim. It would go on to make $654 million at the world wide box office and earn a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for Depp. Inevitable sequels followed which made even more money and basically made Depp the box office star that he is today.
So, here we are 8 years later with a new adventure for our loveable rogue to cause havoc with. Unfortunately the franchise has hit a proverbial brick wall and Captain Jack Sparrow is on the wrong side of it. What made the Pirates movies so popular was the Sparrow character, the fantastic visuals and the insane action sequences. This time round the Sparrow character seems tired and Depp just looks like he isn’t having fun anymore.
