FilmMattic Movie Review: The Lincoln Lawyer—McConaughey Legalese

FilmMattic writes: Furman's legal thriller skirts morality, remodels expectations and overhauls conventions—a man strides into court confident and leaves conscious.
Who could've anticipated the creepy but endearing older dude from Dazed and Confused—making his feature film debut—would become one of the biggest Hollywood stars of the last 15 years. It all boils down to an admission that would land most of us in jail: "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age." It's a disconcerting confession. If any other actor spoke that line, I'd find 'em utterly detestable. Lest we not forget Quentin Tarantino's From Dusk Til Dawn character...I mean talk about a total scumbag. But Tarantino is best served behind the camera and McConaughey's not any other actor.

I'd give it closer to a 8.5 score. It was pretty entertaining and had a decent plot IMO.

I really enjoyed the movie and 7.5 is a strong score. The reason I didn't go 8.5 or 8 was because I had two complaints. I felt like Furman manipulated the story a little too much (thus making the twist so obvious early on), and the McConaughey/Tomei romance was underdeveloped and unrealistic.

Plus, I only reserve 9 or better for films that blow my mind. An example from last year was 127 Hours.

And yes 127 Hours was an amazing performance, completely believable by James Franco.

I heard it was very good and am waiting for the dvd. I just wasn't able to make to the movies on this one.

Good drama and suspense movie. The story was well written but it's hard watching Ryan Filipe play a part like that.
