Sucker Punch Review - WGTC

Sucker Punch is an example of what happens when creativity derails. It’s a sensory overload of utter garbage on every level possible. Superman better not suffer the same fate.

A 1? Really....Is this movie that horrible?

JL4778d ago

I'm seriously doubting it actually deserves a 1. That's just garbage. A movie would have to be universally panned to be so poor. There's no way a movie that is that horrible could be receiving praise from places.

Several of the other movie bloggers I know have said that they thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Saying it's no Inception and not the greatest in action meets story-telling/depth, but still very fun and enjoyable.

Doesn't matter what reviews say, I'll absolutely watch this. I just have to wait till Monday :(

Soldierone4777d ago

Yeah ill be seeing it for sure too! i just dont want to be let down again after Battle LA. This one where its all fantasy and dreams and imaginations etc...its so hard to mess up. The only way you mess it up is if you keep thinking bigger and bigger and forget to close the thought.

Christopher4777d ago

Just got back from watching it. I'd give it a 1/4 stars, or 2.5/10. I couldn't justify going lower than that, though.

It's a really pointless movie with nothing to it other than a few scenes that are well shot, but otherwise a story that is a clusterf#*& and pointless combined with CGI combat that does nothing new.

Definitely wasn't worth full ticket price, though.

Hopefully next week's The Source Code will make up for this week's choice in movie.

darklordzor4777d ago

Wow, that's pretty scathing. Hmmm...I figured the story wasn't much but at least the action should be fun.

Christopher4777d ago

It's not so much scathing as thoroughly disappointing. The concept wasn't bad, but the delivery was very sloppy and they made it disjointed through extremely poor writing. Even the symbology utilized for each story element was completely mishandled.

JL4777d ago

I'm with you Dark. I never expected the story to be much, but rather am interested in this due to figuring the action would be cool and the visuals being very stylish, making it a fun movie.

Honestly, all the panning of this movie seems to be about the story. If that's the only problem, I'm betting I like this more than the average reviewer does, due to not having high expectations for the story, but rather just looking for a fun popcorn flick.

Soldierone4777d ago

Wow people are either finding the point of the movie or not. People not finding it and calling it crap are ticking me off. It has a massive point and if you pay attention you will see it. NOTE NO im not bashing anyone or calling anyone out specifically so dont get me in trouble lol.

Semi spoilers. Its about finding yourself and using your knowledge and skills instead of standing around doing nothing. They could of easily made this a simple hour and half movie about the girls escape plan and how they pulled it off. Instead they went the route of being creative, and for that they get killed for it. I give Zach props for everything he did.

You notice the song keeps playing throughout the fantasies? and comes and goes as things gettough? You notice key aspect that carried through the fantasies, right down to the names? He did all kinds of this stuff throughout the movie. Let alone the visuals blow Battle LA out of the water then destroy it in the air.

Let me know how you feel after seeing it. I went in with the same mentality and still walked away disappointed.

Whatever. I'm still going to see it.

darklordzor4778d ago

That's right! I plan on sticking by my guns and seeing this as well.

JL4777d ago

I'm with you. Doesn't matter how many negative reviews come in between now and then, I'm watching this on Monday. Then Tuesday I'll be heading to watch Cedar Rapids.

darklordzor4778d ago

A 1 is something you reserve for movies like Mega Shark vs. Octopus, or Sharktopuss....so I think there's a little exaggeration going on here. It couldn't have been that bad. The action scenes alone would have put it higher, just for the enjoyment.

cody2oo4777d ago

People really went to a Zack Snyder movie and are complaining about depth.....WOAH.

I can't believe the hatred for this movie.
And @cgoodno, tell me one movie that combines as many elements as this movie? it has rape, dragons, mental word, hot women, death, dark tone, ogres, world war 2 nazi zombies, mechs with bunnies, some lol moments, some of the best shot fight scenes that are taking from Anime and brought to life. NO movie has done that.

I really do believe this movie would have been better received if it was rated R still due to the dark nature. And truthfully i thought the plot was so easy to follow, how was it a ClustF***? it goes from point A to Point B.

Ps. name a movie with a similar action sequence like the train fight?

JL4777d ago

Exactly. That's a big reason I'm not trusting reviews here. The only complaint I've seen really is the depth and story to it. Come on, I never expected any type of Christopher Nolan depth to it. That aspect doesn't bother me. I just want to see a kick ass movie with some fun action and visual flair. That's ALL i expect.

cody2oo4777d ago

you'll get the visual flairs, trust me idk how people were saying they are boring and been done before. i was happy as hell when they were kicking ass. then the dark dreary parts set in, some good moments, more kickass fight scenes.

JL4777d ago

Yea, I have a few other movie bloggers that I'm friends with and they've all said they enjoyed it and that it's a real fun movie. I tend to value they're opinion more than some others.

It doesn't matter what any of these reviews say though. I'll be seeing this as soon as I can (Monday). It's been one of my most anticipated movies for the year. I'm not missing it.

Christopher4776d ago (Edited 4776d ago )

***And @cgoodno, tell me one movie that combines as many elements as this movie?***

Tell me, how does combining more elements makes a movie better, let alone good?

As I said many times, I went in with very low expectations, but the movie didn't even match those even. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

***And truthfully i thought the plot was so easy to follow, how was it a ClustF***? it goes from point A to Point B. ***

You see, you're putting words in my mouth there. I didn't say the plot wasn't easy to follow. I said the story was a cluster****. In fact, even with all of its massive flaws, the plot was extremely easy to follow. The storytelling was just handled extremely poorly, IMHO.

***name a movie with a similar action sequence like the train fight?***

Perhaps the problem is that I can name a ton of video games with similar CGI action sequences. That's what it felt like I was watching with each battle sequence other than the nazi steambots melee portions.

Soldierone4777d ago

Never coming to this site for a review lmao!

The movie was friggin awesome! Its like what Watchmen should of been with a few minor flaws. Id easily give it a 7.5 or 8, would of been better if little things were fixed but it was looked over since the visuals were the most important aspect.

cody2oo4777d ago

lol, glad to here someone liked it.
