Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is Alberto Falcone In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Slashfilm: The speculation is over and sometimes, rumors are true. Variety is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is indeed playing Alberto Falcone, of former mob boss Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. We knew that Gordon-Levitt was cast in the film in early February and we speculated that the role could be Falcone a few days after. Carmine Falcone was a major villain in Nolan’s 2005 film Batman Begins and his son, Alberto, is believed to be Holiday, the main villain in one of Nolan’s favorite and most referenced Batman stories: The Long Halloween. If this turns out to be true, the only thing fans can say is "Called it!" Everyone has already assumed that's the role he'd be playing and it's so perfect to wrap up the trilogy. Can't freakin wait!

The question is: Will he just be Alberto or will he actually play The Holiday Killer as well?

darklordzor3711d ago

My gut instinct is he'll only be Alberto. While it's widely believed that Alberto is Holiday, The Long Halloween actually never definitively stated that's who Holiday is. In fact a couple people claimed to be Holiday in the comics. Hard to say, because depending on people's depiction of the ending, he may not have been.

I'm saying he'll be a regular mob boss kind of guy out for revenge because Batman uprooted his dad.

Yea, that was my reason for questioning it being as how it's never truly revealed who definitely is Holiday.

I couldn't be more underwhelmed by this revelation. I actually want to see a classic character from the Batman. I would have much preferred to see The Riddler, Harley Quinn or even Hugo Strange.

@ Crazay,

I would have much rather seen the Riddler as well, but at the same time Alberto Falcone really works well too. It ties in perfectly with the first film and should wrap up this trilogy.

I'm not sure. EW says he's not playing Alberto, but at the same time, they didn't say who he is playing.

Hmm interesting. Of the two, though, I'm far more included to trust Variety over EW. Variety being an actual trusted trade journal (if not THE trade journal of this industry) while EW is a general audience regular magazine. Thus, Variety is more likely not to run on rumors that actually are rumors (ie they don't have strong confirmation from the inside). In fact, I can't say I've ever seen Variety be wrong (at least not to my recollection).

Alberto Falcone sounds like a completely logical choice too. He ties the trilogy together nicely. It's a perfect role for JGL. It revisits Batman Begins like Nolan said was going to happen. It just sounds entirely logical.
