Darren Aronofsky Bows Out of 'Wolverine'

The Hollywood Reporter says:

The director says he is "sad," but the 20th Century Fox sequel would have kept him out of the country for too long.

Darren Aronofsky is bowing out of directing 20th Century Fox’s sequel The Wolverine, saying the project would keep him out of the country for too long.

Fox and Hugh Jackman - who is set to return in the title role - said they remain fully committed to making Wolverine and will move aggressively to find a new director.

This is some seriously crappy news. Hopefully it really is because he doesn't want to be away from his family and not for any other reasons like meddling by 20th Century.

darklordzor4782d ago

Holy crap! That really sucks. Geez, I was really looking forward to seeing his vision of a comic book movie. Maybe he'll go ahead and do Robocop then!

Crazay4782d ago

I think there's a fat chance of that since they're already begun ramping up their team for that project. Stranger things have happened though.

@ Crazay...

I know, but a man can have his dreams! Either way I'm still looking forward to the robocop reboot, however, my interest has severely dropped in Wolverine.

The only real reason I was getting excited for Wolverine was because Aronofsky was directing. Now that he's gone, the property isn't as appealing to me.

Crazay4782d ago

But from the sounds of it the script is going to remain intact so it should be ok.

I'm probably still watch the new Wolverine movie, but I'm with you in that I was really really looking forward to see what Aronofsky did with it. It could've very well been his "Batman Begins". Unfortunately we won't be seeing that now. Kinda sucks.

darklordzor4781d ago

I don't think I'll watch it in theaters. I'm sure I'll see it, but most likely a rental, unless the trailers and stuff just blow me away...

@ Crazay

Meh...I'm not as big on the Wolverine train as I once was. I got burned out on the character and they overplayed him. I'm still hoping that this movie will be good, but more than likely they are going to be sticking with the same shooting schedule they've already established.

This means they'll try and rush in a director, and remember what happened the last time they did that on an X-Men movie? We got X3!

hazelamy4781d ago

weren't they due to start shooting this any day now?

it's a shame anyway, i'd have liked to see what aranofsky could bring to wolverine.

JL4781d ago

As far as I know, the project hadn't even been greenlit yet.
