I dont know why im like the only person that doesn't get Shatner. He is a cool fellow and what not, i just dont understand why people are crazy for him. Of course Star Trek is understandable, a guest appearance of some sort would be absolutely neat for Trekkies, but everything else?

I've enjoyed him ever since he stopped taking himself so seriously. But, it took him many years without a real starring role before he started to do this (when TNG replaced original Star Trek in the movies especially). His cameos on Conan over the last few years, for example, have been in great jest and well done.

I do believe he sometimes demands a bit more than what is wanted of him at times and needs to learn to step back a bit when it comes to Star Trek. Especially given he refused a cameo in the first movie, which was just petty, IMHO.

You're not alone Soldier. I don't get him either. In fact, I pretty much don't even care for seeing him on my screen, that's how little I get him. I don't find him funny or charismatic or any of that stuff.

Shatner is awesome for a few reasons.
1. Yes he is a god among men for Trekkies
2. He's actually a pretty funny and charismatic guy
3. He's Canadian
4. The man has a great sense of humor and doesn't take himself seriously in the least bit which makes him kinda fun.

I dunno how they could toss him into the next movie but I suspect he could be an admiral in the Federation or something. He won't be playing the role of Old Kirk though. That much is a given.

Thats the thing. I like him because of the dont care attitude, he is amuzing to watch in that sense. However I never really found him to be funny.

His show Shit My Dad Says is kinda funny, but his long monologues he does on Conan and stuff, it never clicks with me.

For me, he will always be Denny Crane from Boston Legal...easily some of his best performances.

I've heard a tonne of praise for his role in that show. I just can't get into legal shows so that's why I never watched it.

darklordzor3766d ago

Then it'll be good for you. It's like no other legal show out there. It doesn't take itself too serious at all. It has a lot of comedy about it. It does have it's serious moments, but on the whole, I'd categorize it as a comedy.

Interesting. Mayhaps I'll catch an episode some night when I'm having an insomniac evening.

"Shatner didn't want a cameo only role and so wouldn't commit. While this broke many fans' hearts."
