Paramount Drafts Jon M. Chu For 'G.I. Joe 2'

Deadline says:

I'm told that Paramount Pictures has chosen Jon M. Chu to direct G.I. Joe 2, the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Chu just made the studio a pile of dough with Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. The competition came down to Chu and Gary Gray, with Unknown helmer Jaume Collet-Serra also meeting with studio brass. Production will begin in the fall. Chu is repped by WME and Principato Young. I'm told they are working out his deal, but that he's been told he is the choice. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. The next task will be to figure out which cast members are returning. I've heard the studio is starting with Channing Tatum, and trying to work out a deal for him to reprise.

Gawddammit!!!
The guy has done SFA aside from lame ass dancing movie and Justin Bieber. Any hope for this movie is gone out the window now. Maybe we'll see Storm Shadow dance around like Biebs.

No big loss anyways since the first one sucked

Crazay4805d ago

I liked the first one far more then I ever thought I would.

I fell asleep halfway into it I was so bored. Glad someone liked it though.

Well i did have slight hopes of this one doing something. But yep, your right lol. So much for GI Joe. It seemed like the easiest movie in the world to make. War scenes, plus action, plus futuristic robot tech. How do you fail at it? Ask Paramount.

JL4805d ago

Exactly. Why this guy? What in his resume inspires confidence in a GI Joe movie? From Step Up to Bieber....that's it. I definitely lost hopes for this one. And I didn't hate the first one either.

UnSelf4805d ago

i actually met this guy in person when i was on the set of Step Up 3d. i was an extra

im here lookin at the pic like "this guy looks very familiar"

cool guy in person

Crazay4805d ago

Sure he may have made some decent dancing films and people who are fans of that genre and series liked them but non of that should ever inspire confidence in an action series like GI Joe. This makes me sad.

Sunny_D4805d ago

The 1st movie was alright. But, if the 2nd adds a dance number then I will never watch G.I. Joe again.

Soldierone4805d ago

It wont go that far, but dont expect Transformers by any means.

Djinn4805d ago

I actually enjoyed the first movie, as stupid as it was. Storm Shdaow was a COOL BADASS. But I just couldn't stand that idiot marlon wayans.

Soldierone4804d ago

Im not saying some of it wasnt sick. Storm Shadow was a badass. But still. You have futuristic weapons ina war based enviroment, just like the beginning and middle of the first Transformers. Why are we not exploiting this?

Send Joe to afganhastan.

I just read he made the pile of dough and thought doodoo, I laughed so hard, rofl.
