Ranking the Farrelly Brothers' Comedies

Movie Muse writes:
One of the most influential last names in movie comedy that gets the least recognition is “Farrelly.” Maybe its because Bobby and Peter’s films have gotten progressively less popular with fans and critics in the 15-plus years they’ve been making them. Maybe it’s because their motto is probably something along the lines of “goofiness and toilet humor above all.” But no matter how “sophisticated” you feel your tastes in “humor” are, the Farrellys know how to get a laugh, period, and their work has inspired dozens of movies you’ve laughed at over the last decade or so.

Heartbreak Kid should switch with Fever Pitch. I actually liked Stuck on You a lot so I'd rank that higher too.

Dumb and Dumber would probably have to take top spot for me.

JL4807d ago

I thoroughly enjoyed Stuck on You as well and would definitely rank it at least a couple spots higher. Dumb and Dumber and Something About Mary would be a very hard choice in me picking my favorite, though you're right Dumb and Dumber might edge out for me.

Something about Mary was great and so was Dumb and Dumber. Stuck on you was alright.

Only thing hurting Dumb and Dumber is they made the mistake of a sequal and it sucked horribly. Otherwise it is number one for me too.

-MD-4806d ago

The sequel was an abomination. I actually bought it too when I was younger.

What a mistake.

JL4806d ago

First, let me say I don't think Dumb and Dumberer (the sequel) was great by any means. But....I didn't entirely hate. It definitely wasn't nearly as good as the first, but again I didn't entirely hate it. Still had some funny moments.

The Bob Saget parts. That part where Harry (I think it was) was in that girl's room and he just bursts out "Especially in the ass!!!" lol It's kinda funny going back and seeing Shia LaBeouf in there as well.

So yes, not great by any means, and nowhere near as good as the original. But I wouldn't call it a horrible mistake either.

I didn't care for The Heartbreak Kid, nor Fever Pitch so much. I think their last couple of movies have been rather lacking. I am interested in seeing Hall Pass though. Looks like they could get back to form.

-MD-4807d ago

At first I didn't but on 2nd and 3rd viewing it really grew on me.

JL4806d ago

Eh, I've seen it two or three times. Still don't care for it.

Soldierone4806d ago

I still cannot find the interest in that movie.

JL4806d ago

Yea, I've known a couple people that say they really liked it and I just don't get it.

Of course these are the same people that tell me they thought movies like Greenberg and Cyrus were pretty damn funny. Didn't find those funny or care for them too much either. Especially Greenberg.

Sunny_D4805d ago

The HeartBreak Kid kind of sucked. I didn't think too much of it. But, I can see why some people seemed to enjoy it.

MrMyers4806d ago

Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Me Myself and Irene, and Kingpin are the only movies from these guys that I really like. I'm still haunted by that landlady from Kingpin ahahaha

filmfreak4806d ago

Jim Carrey annoys me so I don't like those two movies with him in it only ones here I really liked were There's Something About Mary, Kingpin and Stuck on You.

Hall Pass looks kind of stupid though.

Sunny_D4806d ago

The ones I enjoyed very much was Me, Myself & Irene, Dumb and Dumber, and Osmosis Jones and that's pretty much it.

Personally I wouldn't see it as a great loss if it never got done.

Still, it's rather depressing that a movie like "Grown Ups" gets a sequel almost immediately, but this gets stuck in production hell.

ironfist923968d ago

Grown Ups is contemporary and its funny

DarkBlood3969d ago

well that blows lol, kind of wanted to see the sequal happen.
