Vulture:
If you’re like most of Vulture readers, you don’t need us to tell you that Xerxes the Great was the fourth Zoroastrian king of the Achamenid Empire. Du-uh. But what you do need your Vulture editors to tell you is that Warner Bros. has offered Xerxes — the sequel to Zach Snyder’s epic 300 — to none other than Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie.
Anthracite Review: This Netflix thriller makes us go down several engaging roads and the twists and turns are delicious.
Stolen Review: Elle Márjá Eira makes an attempt at creating a story revolving Sámi people of Sweden.
Despite the lack of updates from Marvel Studios and Disney, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu says the sequel to the successful 2021 movie is still happening.
I'm perfectly fine with this.
The man made Snatch what else can I say?
I love Guy Ritchie's work, but honestly I'd rather see Snyder stick with the "franchise". I really don't think Ritchie could pull of the style needed to make it similar to 300. I'd rather have that style back. And I think Snyder is a fine filmmaker.
Also, the logic here doesn't make sense. One excuse is that he needs to bear down on Superman. Fine. Let him do that. There's no rush to make Xerxes. Let him finish up Superman, then he can get to Xerxes after that.
The other excuse is the more ignorant of the two. They say WB may be losing faith in Snyder because his Legend of the Guardians was something of a flop and now Sucker Punch got bad reviews at a screening? So, you want me to believe that, since they're losing this faith, they'd rather pull him off the Xerxes project but keep him on the much more high-profile Superman project? That doesn't make sense even if I try to abandon logic.
I love Guy Ritchie but I'm with you JL, Snyder needs to stick with this franchise. Let's face it, Snyder's signature style is what made 300 such an enjoyable film in the first place (it sure wasn't the great fleshed-out characters!). While I think Ritchie could do just fine with the project, it just wouldn't feel right.
They'd need to stick with the same visual style of 300 or they just won't match up and wouldn't be as successful. But forcing someone like Ritchie (who has plenty of his own talent) to mimic someone else's style is criminal.
I think it's fully possible that Snyder won't have the time. With him being occupied with Superman for the forseeable future, and WB wanting to get started on Xerxes, I could see that being the most plausible reason for this.
Mate, Snyder is what MADE 300. He is the sole of the body that is 300. Take away the soul, and replace it with hot air...it aint gonna be the same.
Well, I guess we can put this one to bed. Warner Bros has come out and said that Guy Ritchie will NOT be directing Xerxes, but pretty much confirm that Snyder won't either. Guess we'll have to wait and see who it falls to.
