From Vulture:
The poet Robert Browning once wrote that "a man in armor is his armor's slave." By that logic, director Jon Favreau is now a free man: Insiders tell Vulture that Favreau has just informed Marvel Studios that he won't direct a third Iron Man film.
Well...that just sucks. This makes me worry about the direction Marvel is going with everything. If Favreau left under the pretense that they didn't really know where they were going with all of these movies, then that doesn't bode well. Favreau really helped bring Marvel to the top with the first Iron Man, and really, I liked the second film. Was it as good? No, but it was still fun. I would have loved to see what he'd do with an Iron Man 3, and I worry about who will replace him.
