Tony Scott Doesn't Want a Remake or Reinvention for 'Top Gun 2'

HitFix: "It's been almost 25 years since Tony Scott had his first blockbuster with "Top Gun," but the prolific action director is finally returning to the skies. Speaking to HitFix while promoting his new thriller "Unstoppable," Scott confirmed he's on board a sequel, tentatively titled "Top Gun 2," with producer Jerry Bruckheimer at Paramount Pictures."

I honestly don't want a second film at all, but at least he's not going with remake route. Hopefully we'll get a fun sequel and nothing that ruins what the first film gave us.

I think it may be cool, Its not Tom Cruise but oh well. I just dont expect it to be a big Hollywood film.

As big as Top Gun is considered now, there's no way it won't turn into a big Hollywood film. Though that's not always a bad thing. Big Hollywood films still have plenty of good things that come out.

Yeah but this one doesnt need to be all jazzed up. It just needs a solid story and some magical film elements to be good.

Soldierone4931d ago

I'm actually somewhat excited for this film. I liked the first one and I think the second can have that same magical feel to it. I'm even more excited now that he has stated this, so tired of reboots all the time.

darklordzor4931d ago

I just can't get excited about it, and I'm really surprised you are. You talk a lot about older films that need to be left alone and not messed up with unnecessary sequels, so I was sure you'd be on the other side. :)

Soldierone4931d ago

Yeah but there wasn't anything special for a time peice in my opinion. It was an older film trying to be a newer film though.

darklordzor4930d ago

Still I really didn't see you going that way. Not that it's bad, but I figured you'd be the first to say leave it alone. I think it could be a fun movie, but what relation would it really have to Top Gun, unless they go cheesy and call it Top Gun: The Next Class...

Soldierone4930d ago

I just wanna know if the Airforce will be outside the theaters recruiting people again haha.

darklordzor4930d ago

OH yeah I remember when they were doing that. Hell, it's really not that bad an idea, and probably worked pretty well!
