The New Halo Game Is a Hit — So What’s the Status of the Halo Movie?

Vulture:
The halting, years-long effort to turn Microsoft’s $2 billion Halo video-game franchise into a movie is again moving forward: Insiders tell Vulture that DreamWorks Pictures is renewing its efforts to obtain the rights and revive the project, which has been in a state of suspended animation since late 2006. It's obvious why this property seems even more valuable now. Halo: Reach grossed $200 million on its very first day in release last month, making it 2010's best-selling game. But after Fox and Universal already dumped millions of dollars into developing the project only to come up with nothing, why does DreamWorks seem so intent on trying, and how will they steal away with this franchise without getting sucked into the other two studios' money pit?

I seriously doubt Spielberg would do a Halo movie. Not saying he's above it, but come on...could gamer fans really get that lucky? Besides he's got a lot of other things on his plate right now.

I think basing a movie off of the books might be good, and could help explore other characters. I still see Fox and Universal throwing a fit over it though, mostly because they still can't get their act together. Overall, I just don't care to see this come to the big screen.

Its Fox lol, they will sue for anything and everything. They will probably sit back and wait for it to make money before they do anything though.

Plus Halo is a big name, its going to be hard for it to fail. That and its action packed. I'm not a fan of the games, but even I will go see this movie. Hopefully this leads into other big names getting movies, perhaps Metal Gear?

I was really pulling for Universal to do it. Can you say theme park attraction?

It really makes you wonder what a Halo theme park ride would be like. Maybe a bunch of aliens shooting lasers at you as you pass them by only to have the ride end in a giant plant-like monster...
