Heat Vision:
Doug Sweetland, the animator behind last year's Oscar-nominated Pixar short “Presto,” will make his feature debut with Sony Pictures Animation’s “The Familiars.”
Sam Raimi and Josh Donen are exec producing the project, which is based on the just-published children’s book by Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson.
The story centers on three young wizard apprentices who, after being whisked away by an evil queen, must rely on their animal companions, or familiars -- an alley cat, a blue jay and a tree frog -- to escape.
Skewed and Reviewed have posted a positive review for the new Marvel film. They noted the characters as the main appeal for the film.
