This children’s charmer has some moments of creative whimsy and magic based on the Nurse Matilda books by Christianna Brand with this screenplay by Emma Thompson. Adults may laugh at some clever and suggestive incidentals then yawn at a few measured set ups. But many colorful moments and a few surprises can keep you and the kids in the game. The video quality of the Blu-ray is terrific, the audio fine and the supplements are simply ported over from the standard DVD, except for a lost extra commentary. Still, the film is visually grand in color and set design and Blu-ray certainly shows it off beautifully.
