I definitely agree that Hollywood tries to mask inferior products with CG and bigger budgets. Sometimes "average Joe" likes it, like in the case of the crappy Transformers movies and sometimes they don't. I don't think they're getting smarter though. If certain people are told to go see something the right way and many times, then they'll do it.
