Last year, following the standard-issue deluge of celebrity gossip and a stranger-than-fiction case history, Phil Spector, the legendary music producer responsible for The Crystals' "Da Doo Run Run", The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" and a truckload of other brilliant singles and records, was convicted of shooting and killing actress Lana Clarkson during an incident at his house in 2003. Clarkson's murder, a Rubik's Cube of physical evidence, psychology and straight-up insinuation, had been laid at Spector's feet before in a 2007 case, which resulted in a hung jury unable to put its finger on a man as famous for his hits as for his radical seclusion.
