Daily Telegraph:
It’s possible to overstate White Material’s opacity. Compared with some of Denis’s earlier work, it’s transparency itself, making regular and unnecessary use of rebel radio broadcasts to anchor the drama. A sub-story involving the hunt for a fugitive soldier called The Boxer (Isaach De Bankolé) strikes a false note. But, helped by Yves Cape’s steamy cinematography and Stuart Staples’s tense score, this is still a beautiful and troubling film.
With the new The Crow remake coming soon, we take a look back at the 30-year-old cult classic original–and where the stars are now.
