"Winter's Bone" is the first film to win both the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury award and its Waldo Salt screenwriting award (an adaptation of the Daniel Woodrell novel). It is also one of the first films to win that award that seems true to the original festival's spirit in quite some time. This is regional American independent filmmaking without hipster ironies.
Usher Morgan, writer/director of award-winning short "Prego," together with film producer Macarena Carrizosa and cinematographer Louis Obioha, are currently in pre-production for a feature crime thriller film entitled "Pickings." The film was written by Morgan who is also directing it. Morgan, who previously collaborated with Seinfeld writer Andy Cowan to bring his latest film Prego to light, will also serve as the executive producer of the film.
When a short-tempered mobster and his gang of thugs try to shake down a neighborhood bar, they're soon confronted with the wrath of its owner. The owner is a mysterious single mother of three with a dangerous past who's willing to die to protect her children, protect her property and isn't afraid to stand up to the biggest racket in town. This action-packed revenge thriller will be released to select theaters in late 2016.

The winners of the 2010 Gotham Independent Film Awards have been announced after the ceremony on Monday night. Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson hosted the awards which marked the 20th anniversary for the ceremony. The biggest winner of the night, though, was the critically-acclaimed Winter’s Bone.
