At Comic-Con 2024, Marvel shook up the nerd universe when it announced that Robert Downey, Jr. will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. One of the most complex and layered characters in Marvel Comics, Doom was portrayed poorly in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies. Fans hope that in the hands of a tremendously talented actor and some accomplished directors (the Russo brothers are back too!), that Doctor Doom will finally get the treatment that he deserves.
Reactions to RDJ as Doom have been mostly positive. Many fans are thrilled that Downey is coming back to the playground where he’s had the most success. However, some skeptics view it as a convenient stunt to raise the recently lagging box office returns and cover up the situation with Jonathan Majors.
To help sort things out (or more likely, raise even more questions), RPadTV host Raymond Padilla brought in two of the biggest comics nerds he knows (and loves!). The guests for RPadTV Episode 75 are longtime videogame journalists Paul Semel and Ray Carsillo. The three will talk about their reactions to the Robert Downey, Jr. announcement, what they expect from RDJ as Doom, whether they expect a portrayal that’s close to the comics, if Marvel is going back to the well and serving up more of the same, and lots more.

I trust Feige, and love Downey, but I don't know what to think...
