Theaters are killing themselves with a number of things. Sound that is AWFUL. One theater I used to go to would turn the volume almost all the way up and it would be distorted (you could hear some of the speakers were blown). Lighting. It would be almost a no brainer here, but unfortunately due to morons looking to sue everyone the theater is simply not dark enough. 5 exit signs, pathway lighting, etc all reflecting on the screen (completely ruins it). Screens themselves...holes in them, and projector that is out of focus in some cases.
I can obtain a FAR better sound, picture, and setting (along with ability to pause, rewind, etc). The core question becomes why WOULD I go to a theater? I am watching on a 120" screen, with a decent consumer grade projector and it is fantastic.
