FGE - For a long time, the quality of video game to movie adaptations has been judged on a scale of disappointing to downright woeful. Even movies with a modicum of success (e.g. Resident Evil franchise) are not looked upon fondly. Movie makers seems to have remained undeterred and with 2016 came three adaptations of popular video games (Angry Birds, Ratchet & Clank and Warcraft). Whilst not universally panned, none of the films managed to truly break the video game curse. Yet, with Assassin’s Creed and a Tomb Raider reboot on the horizon, the adaptations still show no signs of slowing down. Murphy’s law suggests a change MUST be coming. A video game adaptation that not only hones the elements that made the game successful but also appeals to a wider audience. Well, the search shall continue. Assassin’s Creed is not it.
