For most of us the “Miracle on the Hudson” was just that — a heroic effort by U.S. Airways Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger to land a failing passenger plane in the Hudson River, saving the lives of 155 people aboard.
But “Sully,” Clint Eastwood’s often-gripping film about the pilot, played with understated dignity by Tom Hanks, doesn’t end with the landing. It begins with it — almost literally, though the nightmarish outcome Eastwood depicts as the film opens is merely a feint, an indication of the toll the incident has taken on Sullenberger.
