Well remember these isolated events in the TV show is set to tie in movies story arch events.
And this most Likely may because of This is all leading upto the infinity war. Remember like Dr. Strange ; Barron mordo..we may infact just like Dr.Strange see that Like Strange even have a guest appearance on Agents of Shield, due to Dr. Strange having ties with the Avenger's..and Remember Barron Mordo was not always an Enemy of Dr. Strange.

Barron Modo has like Dr.Strange felt the movement of the cosmic force of thanos , they may not know exactly the full extent of whats happening but Thanos is an Eternal one of the most powerful Eternals ever in the universe, and in his ultimate goal in to Aquire the infinity gems for the gauntlet.
Thanos is very powerful even without the gauntlet!
There is been so far many references to the infinity gems already..in movies from the Avenger's and shield.
With Ghost Rider there also as a lever for or against hero's, there can be unique events to take place , leading upto the infinity war, and Agents of Shield are pretty much stuck as side line looking in, but their Action's can have a very profound effect on the events unfolding. not only in the show, but the movies.
It's being tied to the events of the Avenger's , which means they are pawns by other beings..be that they know it or not..remember the grandmaster and the key points in his game for the universe.
And we already seen guardians of the galaxy.. The grandmaster has already been shown also at this point.. As a elder of the universe, the grandmaster may be battling Thanos for the gems!
