jeez... much like a woman, i guess you can't please a gay man. i would have thought he would have been delighted.

-Foxtrot2842d ago (Edited 2842d ago )

Why would he be delighted?

They made a character gay because the original actor is gay. He also tried to stop it and they threw his opinion out the window

It makes NO SENSE

Just because we have an Alternate reality doesn't mean it turns a character gay...he had a wife and child in the original series

George is completely right. Make new characters don't change the originals. I applaude him for not just nodding his head at this

Absolutely correct, this is little more then Hollywood and its gay agenda supporting fan club pandering. Creating a new character would have been fine but this is unnecessary, ridiculous and a disrespect to the character that Gene Roddenberry created. Are we going to make every character in every movie or tv show gay if the actor portraying them is gay in real life just to appease a certain group of people. This gay rights thing has gone beyond rights and turned into something ridiculous.

Like fox said, he has a right to be upset. He knows what's going on here, when he originally played the role he wasn't playing a gay character, so why should they change that just because he is gay in real life? It's actually pretty insulting if you ask me.

What you are seeing here is the difference between someone that is actually concerned with the issues versus someone that is just trying to make something to pander to what they think people want.

Takei played the role the way it was written and gave it his all. So why wouldnt he be displeased with these actions. Arguing for gay rights doesnt mean you just want things to be associated with gay. Its not okay to lose the essence of something simply to pander to a new crowd of idiots. Takei knows that changing a character's sexual orientation in the movie isnt going to sale it to people. Being true to that character and having great actors will sale it to fans.

The best Star Trek remake of these latest movies is still consider that first Star Trek 2009. That first movie held true to the original Star Trek but allowed the new movies to be their own thing. It was a great movie. Changing the character to this extent just makes no real sense and Takei thinks that it loses the essence of what the original character was and I agree with him.

Gay people werent saying make the new Star Trek characters gay, the same way Fantastic Four black fans wasnt saying make one of the FF4 characters black. What gays, lesbians, blacks, etc want is a great movie to watch. This is just Hollywood thinking they know how to make a movie appeal to a broader audience. The same thing can be said of the new Ghostbuster movie. The trailers for that movie is so demeaning and low brow its not even funny. If you are a Ghostbuster fan you can't be too please with what you have seen, regardless of if you are a woman or a man.

What you wrote is, wow why isn't this gay guy happy? A gay guy is in the movie, why can't those people just be happy now that they got what they want? To that I say this one simple thing. where are all of these gay people asking for the existing Star Trek characters to have their sexuality changed? Asking for more diverse group of characters in a film is no where near the same thing as demanding existing iconic characters be changed. Even if this group does exist so what? Are they going to make Kirk gay because a vocal group is asking for it? Under the right circumstances, changing a character's gender or sexual orientation can be done well. Samuel L Jackson is practically born to play Nick Fury, but Nick Fury was changed to a Black guy in the comics and model after Sam Jackson long before the movies happened.

Takei is against this because the only reason the character is being changed to gay is to pander to a small crowd who will ultimately not like the characters because the movie will be too far removed from the original characters and lose the essence of what made the series great.

Pandering to the gay community, well now I dont have to see the new Star Trek movie, thanks.
