Carl Williams writes, "Okay, take an iconic anime from the really late last century and then remake it as a live action film 20+ years later. How can you screw that up? By casting Scarlett Johansson in the lead role- a role that is not even her ethnicity. That is how. Can it get much worse though? Sure, why not, this is Hollywood after all. The real question is, is Johansson in the lead such a bad thing?"
With the new The Crow remake coming soon, we take a look back at the 30-year-old cult classic original–and where the stars are now.
Dinner with the Parents Review: It's a family comedy series following the Langers, who often turn their family dinners into a disruptively chaotic affair.
Kaam Chalu Hai Review: Based on true events, this movie is thought-provoking and inspiring
well Major Motoko is always on the no feeling expresion soooo maybe Scarlet Johanson has a chance :D
I don't really mind the casting.
Even the creators have said that Scarlett is a great casting choice. she has the look of Major Kusanagi for sure. The creators also said that they don't mind that it's being done by americans as it gets more mainstream attention and the gives the ghost in the shell story more exposure to a wider audience.
It was a financial decision. Since its not my money and someone elses that someone else has the right to do what they think will make them more money.
Weather it will be a good decision and weather it will yield a better movie we will have to wait.
On the otherhand I understand people wanting to try someone different or give the chance to other minority actors but the thing is there must be other minority actors that are good or just as good as Scarjo.
Its too much of a risk betting on a completely unknown or untested minority actor for such a big project as this. Again its their money.
I like Scarlett Johansson. She's a great actress and a fine looking woman but I don't know if she'd be right for this movie. I guess I have to wait and see how it turns out.
