Recently, I was very fortunate to sit down and talk with Mark Korven; a Toronto based award winning composer of music for film and television. He is now most well known as the composer for the hit period, horror film The Witch; a beautiful, compelling, and terrorizing movie with an atmospheric score that ebbs and flows seamlessly alongside its narrative. Mark Korven spoke to FilmGamesEtc. about achieving this atmosphere, rejecting electronic sound design in favor of acoustic instrumentation, his relationship with writer/director Robert Eggers, and the preparation that went into crafting score so terrifying, it even “freaked the engineer for the recording session a bit.”
